As part of the airborne you begin each mission being dropped in via parachute and you have to control your characters movement in the air, aiming for a number of different checkpoints. Medal of Honor Airborne really comes to life with it's open ended mission structure and large, diverse maps.
The game is a first person shooter and anyone who has played a Call of Duty or Medal of Honor game should be fairly comfortable with the control scheme. The final two missions take place in the heart of Germany, behind enemy lines and tasks the player with destroying key munitions, weapons and objectives to aid in the downfall of Nazi Germany. Then the player is dropped into Operation Market Garden in The Netherlands, an ultimately doomed plan by the Allies. Then the player is sent to behind the lines of Utah Beach on D-Day tasked with taking objectives that could be used against the Allied Invasion. From there the game moves to an archaeological dig near Rome where the player is tasked with securing the site named Operation Avalanche.
Beginning with Operation Husky in Sicily which was a joint operation between the allied Navy, Army and Airforce that looked to open supply lines and landing routes into Italy. The main game covers the deployment of the 82nd Airborne Division through Italy, The Netherlands, France and Germany. Their first deployment was to North Africa which is only depicted in the game as the area for the player training mission. They were reassigned as America's first airborne infantry division prior to entering WWII and were deployed throughout Europe and Africa on a number of vital and daring missions. The 82nd Infantry Division were constituted into the National Army in 1917 shortly after America joined WWI. The Medal of Honor series is back again with another thrilling look at WWII, this time putting you in the boots of one the troopers from the 82nd Airborne Division on a number of missions throughout war torn Europe.
